My own Narrative Poem
My own Narrative poem (Joe):
Joe? Who’s that?
The one who constructs the house?
The ones who get rid of the mouse!
Joe? The one whose last name is hills?
The one who cooks burgers on the grill!
Whose last name unknown and untold
Whose last name replaced and displaced.
Joe! Yes I remember now,
The one whose last name made fun of by the bunch
Whose isolated by brunch
The same Joe who went to school with us,
Only to be forgotten as of yesteryear’s speech
Joe? Yes, Yes! That Joe.
Writing Process:
My writing process includes picking a topic from events/people happening around me such as people I meet at school, their hobbies, my hobbies, news headlines, how I'm feeling, etc. It's easiest to string together words to produce sentences then separation by individual statements, but afterward wordsmithing is required to polish the flow and deepen the understanding of the topic and statement. Most importantly in a poem is the concluding phrase, weather it repeats the topic or an outro statement, people will remember the first and last.
The easiest part of writing a poem is wordsmithing the poem after the words have been set because the words have already been set, just phrasing words doesn't require as long. The most challenging part of creating a poem is deciding the topic. Because there is always so much going on in the world and selecting the hottest topic isn't always the best for both writer and readers, there is time required to debate on what topic fits in a poem.
What surprises me the most when writing is that I tend to want to rhyme the last couple or first couple words together in a line and sync the end of each block to perpetuate the topic. Rather than focusing on free poems, I have troubles on structured poems and would like to touch on my skills enough so that I'm not spending too long on crafting the poem.
